The Nigeria Police, in conjunction with The Sun Publishing Limited, has unveiled the speakers and session chairmen at the National Security Summit billed for Monday, August 17, 2015 in Abuja.
The summit, with the theme, “Community Partnership Approach to Internal Security and Crime Management,” holds at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Central Area 11, Herbert Macaulay Way, Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event. The Royal Father of the day and Keynote Speaker would be the Sultan of Sokoto, Amirul Mumineen Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, while the Chief Host is the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase.
As part of the programme for the day, two papers will be presented and discussed afterwards. Dr. Kevin Nwosu, a legal luminary and Alternative Dispute Resolution expert, will deliver the first paper entitled: “The Strategic Importance of Traditional Institutions and Community Partnership in National Security and Crime Management,’ while former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh, in the second paper, will speak on “The Role of the Media in National Security and Crime Management.”
The first panel of discussants, to be chaired by former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, includes Chief Nosakhare Isekhure, Chief Priest of Benin Kingdom, Dr. Sani Matazu, Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, and HRM Oba Dokun Abolarin, Orangun of Oke-Ila. The second session, which will be chaired by veteran journalist, Mr. Ray Ekpu, will have as discussants Dr. Hussaini Abdu, Country Director, Plan International, Asiwaju Kemi Okenyodo, Cleen Foundation, AIG (Barr.) Felix O. Ogbaudu (retd), Ogbaudu and Co.
Participants expected at the event include the service chiefs and heads of para-military agencies, National Security Adviser (NSA), state governors, principal officers of the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly, security experts, traditional rulers, corporate chieftains and religious leaders.
Others include chairmen and secretaries of political parties, ambassadors of foreign countries, labour leaders, presidents of professional bodies, chairmen of ethnic fora and civil society groups.
Proceedings for the day will begin by 9am prompt.
The National Security Summit is geared towards facilitating a meeting of all relevant stakeholders from all walks of life to make informed input into concerted efforts of the Police and other security agents, with a view to providing lasting solutions to Nigeria’s myriad of security challenges.
