EMINENT businessman and former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has expressed sadness over the passing away of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, describing him as an embodiment of peace.
He noted that the passing on of the revered monarch was a huge loss to the nation.
According to Kalu in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, the paramount ruler was an elder statesman, who displayed love and fairness to all irrespective of tribal, religious and political differences.
The business mogul said: “Nigeria has lost a great personality. Oba Sijuwade demonstrated genuine leadership by contributing to both local and national issues objectively. He was a symbol of culture and tradition beyond the shores of the African continent.
His reign brought unprecedented development to Ile- Ife and his memories will remain evergreen in the minds of the people. Above all, he was humane, cerebral and outstanding in all ramifications. Our hearts and prayers are with the Sijuwade family at this grief-stricken period.
“The passing over of Oba Sijuwade has created a big vacuum in the traditional institution.”
The former governor, while urging the deceased’s family to sustain the humanitarian gestures of the late monarch, admonished them to take solace in the fact that their patriarch lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.
Also Kalu commiserated with the government and people of Osun State and Ile Ife royal dynasty.
He prayed God to grant the late monarch a blissful rest.
