SOKOTO State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has said that Sheikh Liman Dan- Ata, Chief Imam of the Sultan Abubakar III Jumaa’at Mosque, Sokoto, was among those killed in the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia last week.
The agency’s Media Assistant, Alhaji Farouk Umar confirmed the killing of nine other pilgrims from the state in the Mina stampede.
The agency had also confirmed the death of the immediate Caretaker Chairman of Illela Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Bello Gidan-Hamma, his mother, step-mother and two wives in the stampede.
At the time of writing this report, several pilgrims from the state had been declared missing.
Also, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has described as untrue reports that 11 pilgrims from the state were among the 769 pilgrims killed in Thursday’s stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia.
Public Relations Officer of the board, Alhaji Nuhu Badamasi, yesterday said the officials of the board were making concerted efforts to find out if any of “our pilgrims from Kano” was affected.
Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Badaru has commiserated with President Buhari, governors of the affected states; Kaduna, Taraba, Borno, Yobe and Kogi, the nation and the entire Muslim Ummah for the loss of many others.
The governor also prayed that Allah will grant them Aljannah Firdaus and also grant the nation the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
